"Their imaginations were unequal to the virulence of the pathogen." Maybe Dannel Malloy and Mike Lawlor should pay attention to the concept that things can rapidly get out of their control.

How the world’s health organizations failed to stop the Ebola disaster.
Long article but some may find it worth the read. The key sentence: "Their imaginations were unequal to the virulence of the pathogen." There's a lot of that going around, particularly in the Governor's office in Hartford, Connecticut these days. I'm reminded of the "Tenth Man Theory" scene in World War Z.

I highly recommend everyone read "The Hot Zone" written in the 1990's by Richard Preston. There is a free PDF online. Ebola is the real deal. Don't let the CDC sugar coating fool you. Horrible death with a 70% kill rate.

All weekend, one moron after another got on the tube and pleaded not to stop the traffic between Africa and the US. We'll probably die of stupidity in this case, because the obvious answer to stopping the spread of Ebola is dismissed as "racist". It has already shown up here in Dallas because of this, and 50-100 are suspected of infection also. Jackass the Movie is now Jackass the Nation.

Look If Ebola were airborne and HALF as deadly as the "great prepper & patriot panic of 2014" made it out to be there would be about ONE BILLION infected and millions upon MILLIONS of dead by this time. No matter how much the doom porn addicts want it to be, Ebola just IS NOT the start of the Zombie A-pock-E- Lips. A lot of bloggers need to grow up, change their undies and start acting like they are at least smarter than your average chimp. Come out of the doom bunkers. Stop pointing that AR-15 at the children playing outside, AND GET A GRIP. Sooner than later some dumb ass with a carbine is gonna start popping the kids next door "'cause dey's zombies wit da E-bola" and that's all Obama will need to start a major "crackdown" , and the fear mongering bullshit and doom porn being spread far and wide by some bloggers (you dipshits know who you are) will have started it.

I read today on a usually reliable news site that the White House is not even planning additional questioning of travelers arriving from the "hot zone". That is an extreme disservice to the American population. Apparently, the chance has been missed to keep this vicious disease out of our country.

Not too long ago, European immigrants were quarantined or sent back if certain infectious diseases were suspected.

Protection of our populace and legitimate visitors appears to have been left by the wayside. It is not a racial issue. It is a major health issue.

In addition, help should be given to the health services in the affected nations. Health workers there should have access to proper protection. Spread of infectious disease is best addressed at its source, where there is a possibility of containment.

Sean is right. Why should we die because of others' stupidity?

I disbelieve that they "failed" to stop it, I believe they Succeeded in spreading it on purpose.

To the poster who dismissed Ebola warnings as "doom porn" , I would suggest he look into exponential mathematics and how pandemics progress. The current Ebola outbreak has already broken out of any sort of containment zone, now it is just a matter of time. Look for India to be the next "hot zone" based on the observations of the doctor who "discovered" and named Ebola.
