Typical collectivist argument. Hey, you can't use militarized police to beat up on OUR friends or we'll use bigger militarized police to beat up on YOU.

The Greatest Threat to Our Liberty Is Local Governments Run Amok (And only a strong federal government can stop them.)

Why would you send traffic to that digi-rag? Please be more discriminating about where you link to. Traffic equals revenue. You are effectively enabling the enemies of Liberty.

The biggest threat to liberty is government run amok. The only thing that can combat it is an informed Citizenry with the courage of their convictions to deny, openly, it's consent to be governed outside the confines of our Constitution.

That begs a question though.
Might it actually be that the largest threat to Liberty is actually a ignorant population absent the courage to stand up and defend what belongs to each of its members?

Talk about clueless.

Just where did the cops in Ferguson get all that hardware?

The militarized police movement was started by the Federal government under Bush the elder and his joint task forces for the War on Drugs.

Granted....state and local police are not immune from corruption and the author is correct that Americans by and large don't pay any attention to their local politics. You can thank the 17th Amendment for that largely.

I don't think I agree with that one. I think the greatest threat to our liberties is Federal Police arming the local units with military weapons.

Local should have precedence with some outlines from the federal level. The Feds police the local government and the locals police the populace.

We need less bleed through from the top, not more.

it's that "strong federal government" handing out military equipment like candy that enables these local abuses. and that's generously assuming DHS wasn't involved in the Ferguson police response as they were in the nationwide crackdown on Occupy. and let's not forget the attempted imposition of martial law in Paterson, NJ in 2009.

The PROPER response to this collectivist argument is the story of THE BATTLE OF ATHENS, TENNESSEE.

I have the full movie and for those who are willing to take the time to read it, JPFO.org has the whole story at their site. KABA has it on their site too, I believe.

William is right.

Hmmm, I wonder how many innocent people have been killed by all local governments, compared to those killed by the federal government?
